MENTAL HEALTH
What is Mental Health?
Mental health refers to a person’s emotional, psychological, and social well-being – it involves the individual’s ability to handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. It encompasses various aspects of life, including thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and the ability to cope with the ups and downs of life
Causes
Mental health is influenced by a complex interplay of various factors, and it’s important to note that mental health issues are not solely caused by one specific factor. Instead, they often result from a combination of biological, psychological, and environmental factors
- Genetics: Family history of mental health disorders can increase the risk.
- Brain Chemistry: Imbalances in neurotransmitters (chemical messengers) can affect mood and behavior.
- Physical Illness or Injury: Certain medical conditions or traumatic brain injuries may impact mental health.
- Trauma and Stress: Experiencing traumatic events or chronic stress can contribute to mental health problems.
